ASEP COVID-19 Updates

ASEP is facing a shortage of funding until schools reopen. You can support ASEP through these challenging times and help us be prepared and ready for our students when they return back to school.
Please consider donating to ASEP below.

The health and safety of ASEP students, staff and community partners remains our top priority as an organization. In an effort to keep ASEP families up to date regarding ASEP's plans and preparedness for impacts of the Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 in our community, we will continue to keep this page updated.

In response to the COVID-19 health crisis, The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) announced on 4/7/20 their decision to close all school sites through the end of 19/20 school year. With all of ASEP's after-school programs operating at SFUSD sites, we will also be temporarily canceling all of our regular after-school operations during this time. With out the income of tuition, ASEP will face a significant funding loss during the months of April and May.

It is our goal to continue to pay ASEP staff their regular hours to reduce the economic burden brought on by this pandemic. Keeping staff employed will also ensure that when schools reopen, our after school program will be ready to re-open with the same dedicated ASEP staff that work with our students every day. If you are able to support ASEP’s staff during these challenging times, we encourage you to donate whatever you can to our non-profit organization. We will continue to serve our community during this time of need. Below is a summary of the services the ASEP team will continue to provide SFUSD families in partnership with McKinley and Daniel-Webster administrators during the school closure period:
  • Virtual check ins with focal student(s) to support distance learning
  • Virtual check ins with families to support them to support their students
  • Virtual physical activity time to support health & wellness
  • Support day school teachers in breakout groups during virtual zoom classes.
  • Support distribution of laptops and technology at designated SFUSD sites
  • Support the SF Marin Food Bank at SFUSD designated sites
  • Development of a bi-lingual online learning resource hub for families. On our website provides grade and subject specific lesson plans that are easy to access for students and families. These activities are meant to supplement the learning initiatives of day school teachers with video and lessons led by ASEP staff. Click here to access our distance learning hub!
  • ASEP staff will participate in professional development training focused on supporting our students re-entry into schools.

Updates to 19/20 School Year Billing and Tuition
  • ASEP will NOT send families invoices for April or May services.
  • Any families who are enrolled in recurring payments plans have already had their payment issued during the month of March. Those payments will be reimbursed.
  • ASEP will be cancelling all recurring payment plans for the remainder of the 19/20 school year.
  • If your family is enrolled in a recurring payment plan for an outstanding balance, that recurring plan will not be cancelled until the date agreed upon on your contract.
  • For the 20/21 school year, your family will be required to fill out a new tuition contract and recurring payment form for the Fall ‘20 semester. Information regarding registration and programming for 20/21 school year can be found here.
Updates to Summer '20 Programming
  • All school campuses will remain closed for in-person programming through the summer of 2020 due to the COVID-19 crisis and CDC social distance guidelines. This unfortunately means that ASEP will be unable to provide our in-person STEAM Summer Camp as originally planned. If your family has already paid tuition for the ASEP's STEAM Summer Camp, we will be revising your invoices and refunding payments accordingly. The ASEP team understands that many families are trying to finalize summer activities for their children. With our in-person camp no longer taking place,  the ASEP staff has developed an alternative virtual summer enrichment opportunity for our community. ASEP is excited to offer a three week virtual Summer Enrichment Camp that focuses on the themes of STEAM, Arts and Health & Wellness. Find out more information about our Virtual Summer Enrichment Camp here!

20/21 School Year Registration and Scenario Planning
  • ASEP is currently accepting applications for the 20/21 school. Our 20/21 school year applications are designed for in-person programming. However our ASEP team continues to plan for various scenarios including the restructuring of ASEP's program offerings to meet updated CDC/social distance guidelines. In the event that school sites do not re-open for in-person programming for the Fall 2020 semester, our team has developed live virtual enrichment classes with small groups and 1-1 coaching sessions as an alternative after-school option. Once SFUSD announces official updates for the 20/21 school year, ASEP will contact any families who applied for the 20/21 school year and communicate any necessary adjustments to our program offerings and availability.

If your family is facing financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, please contact ASEP’s Program Director Ramiro Lule (Ramiro@asepsf.org) and our team and we will be able to provide full or partial tuition scholarships.

ASEP’s management team will continue to keep families up to date with any information and resources made available by the city and SFUSD. Please find links below where you can find information regarding free meals and emergency childcare during the school closures:
