ASEP Language Enrichment Program

Picture
Picture
The ASEP Language Enrichment Program is a student-centered, language and multicultural convergence model that serves K-3 Spanish and K-5 Mandarin learners. The ASEP Language Program commingles a blend of academic  and a play-based learning approach.

T
he ASEP Language Program is developed to meet the needs of our community by providing language learning experience to students in grades K-5 through a 50% Playbase and 50% Literacy model. Our curriculum structure is designed through bi-weekly themes aligned with art, music, Playsep (Physical education), Reading and Literacy Comprehension.

OUR SELECTION PROCESS
Our process of curating our language groups has been based on key components that are required for a child to learn a target language. The key components encompass the child’s maturity level, her/his ability to communicate in the target language, her/his level of exposure to the target language previous to this coming year, if applicable, his/her last year test score and his/her teacher’s feedback and the child's grade level. Currently we offer three levels of Spanish and two levels of Mandarin.

ELIGIBILITY
Enrollment for the language program opens up each year in April. Enrollment priority is given to students who are currently enrolled in the Language Program or siblings of those students who are already enrolled. Otherwise our enrollment is based on a lottery process.

OUR LANGUAGE GROUPS
The ASEP Language Program has mix-age groups with a ratio of 1:15, meaning one instructor for 15 students maximum. Our Language Program is a student centered where we strive to have a comprehensive and balanced academic program.
  • Spanish language groups: Sol, Luna, and Tierra
  • Mandarin language groups: Tiger (老虎) and Dragon (龍)

Registration

Enrollment priority will go to returning students to language program and their siblings. Otherwise, enrollment will be based on a lottery system. We are currently only offering the language program at the McKinley Elementary School site.

Space is limited in all language classes so interested students should apply to the program as soon as the
application goes live.
